Ethics and Disasters
Unfortunately, there have been many disasters resulting from poor engineering judgement since engineers built the first structure. Recall such disasters as
Challenger
Katrina
BP oil spill
Exxon Valdiz
TMI
Fukashima
Union Carbide Disaster/Bhopal
Hyatt walkway
Tacoma Narrows
Titanic
and many more. The cause for each disaster can be traced to a single decision that should have not been made. In HW2, in no more than two pages (12pt type), you are to choose a particular disaster (from above or your own choice), identify and explain what was its root cause and discuss any ethical issues involved.
