Annotated Bibliography
Andrés, Antonio Rodríguez, and Katherine Hempstead. “Gun control and suicide: The impact of state firearm regulations in the United States, 1995–2004.” Health Policy 101.1 (2011): 95-103.
The authors used a negative binomial regression model to determine the number of suicides especially for the men through the years 1995-2004. The article uses the model to associate possession and regulation of gun to male suicides rates. According to the article, restriction to gun availability deters male suicides as opposed to restriction to ownership. The article draws data from a wide range of perspectives of scholars and for a long period of time. The information is thus reliable and will be informative to my paper in explaining the effect of gun restriction and availability.
Burger, James B. Jacobs Warren E. Can gun control work?. Oxford University Press, 2002.
The authors analyzed the validity and potentiality of gun controls America. The book talks of the gun rights and control advocates in the United States. It gives the dangers of gun availability and risks of failing to regulate them. Also, the book assesses the credibility of the debates about gun controls by drawing from a number of case studies, experiences and articles. It is a valid source to add to my research since it provides a critical analysis of the control approaches and their potentials. I will discuss about the political debates and this information from the book will be valuable.
Cornell, Saul, and Nathan DeDino. “Well Regulated Right: The Early American Origins of Gun Control, A.” Fordham L. Rev. 73 (2004): 487.
The journal article gives a detailed analysis of the second amendment as an origin of gun control, rights and regulations. The second amendment solidifies individual claims for ownership of firearms and claims that arming individual militia was meant for state security. The discussion is open and this source is very informative on the constitution and the second amendment. For instance, my paper will discuss the impact of the second amendment on gun controls. As such, I find this source most helpful. It rich content and evidence based arguments make it a reliable and valid source.
Goss, Kristin A. Disarmed: The Missing Movement for Gun Control in America: The Missing Movement for Gun Control in America. Princeton University Press, 2010.
Goss explains the democracy that America is and how that has contributed to the gun violence in the country. Goss’s main argument is the lack of a legitimate national body to address the issue of gun control. That even after the massacres of public figures year after year, the state has failed to set up a body to particularly deal with gun controls without partial attention of the congress. This is a valid argument that gives insight to America’s administrative structure and helps identify the missing link. Goss is analytical and his arguments are backed up sufficiently from reliable sources. This is an important source for my research since its informative and consists of evident based facts.

Lott, John R. More guns, less crime: Understanding crime and gun control laws. University of Chicago Press, 2013.
Lott’s logic of more guns to less crime is adopted by opponents of the gun controls. Lott relies on the comprehensive data on crime statistics to make such claim. The perceptions of guns, crime and violence are critically challenged in the book including guns bans on Chicago and Washington D.C. The book gives the concept of gun control a different perspective from the challenging arguments that the author presents. The data used is comprehensive and extensive making it most reliable. The analysis of the data makes the conclusions valid as well. My study will talk of the gun bans on Chicago and the source will be crucial.
Spitzer, Robert J. The politics of gun control. Cq Staff Directories, 2008.
Spitzer is contemplative in his presentation of The politics of gun control which is an analysis of the debates of gun control in America. The book analyses the controversial elements of gun control including historical and constitutional moments. It also gives us the privilege to comprehend the criminal consequences that accompany the availability of guns in the region. The debates involve various institutions, opinions and individuals. The debates are important in understanding the perspectives of others to help us comprehend the whole issue of gun control. The political interventions discussed in my paper are informed by the author’s analysis.
