KNOWLEDGE OR “WRITER TOPIC”

The history of epistemology since Descartes can be described as a series of attempts to overcome skepticism, most illustriously starting with Descartes’ systematic doubt and ending in Hume’s doubt over our most basic commonsense knowledge of the world. First summarize Descartes’ method of doubt and Hume’s skepticism over the principles of causality and induction. Next explain the attempts to overcome them, namely Descartes’ own response to his doubt and Kant’s response to Hume’s skepticism.
Reflect on the following questions and express your own thought concerning the issue of skepticism: Do you think the attempts succeed? Do you think overcoming skepticism is necessary to have confidence in our knowledge of the world? Will skepticism lead necessarily to relativism?
