discussion and conclusions, here are some questions you should answer as part of the discussion and conclusions section. These suggestions are in addition to the guidelines distributed at the first class session. Please remember that the discussion/conclusion portion of a lab report is meant to discuss the results determined in the experiment. Do not restate the procedure in detail. Instead, use this as an opportunity to address the following:
* Within the body of your discussion and conclusion instead of answering the post lab questions on pg 8, please answer the following questions:
* Definitions for major concepts: this includes more than Hess Law.
* Discuss the reason special instrumentation was relevant to the completion of this experiment as it pertains to the calculation of heat quantity.
* The theoretical values for Hformation of MgO is -601.8 kJ/mol, Determine your % error for this experiment.
* Compare the value for Hreaction for Reaction 3 that you obtained in this experiment, with the calculated value of Reaction 3 using Hess Law (from question 5). How do these values compare?
* What did we assume about heat lost and the calorimeter that allowed us to determine T?
* Using T value, what steps were taken to eventually solve for H of reaction (going through solving for q, NOT Calculations, but equations)? Explain how the equations were used in relation to Hess Law.
* Identify all equations and reactions that were necessary for you to eventually determine the enthalpy values as part of the purpose of the experiment ( for Parts 1 and 2)
