Pat Tillman
Pat Tillman was born at Fremont, California in November 6, 1976. When growing up especially in high school, he was excelled in football and helped his high school to reach the central coast divisional championship. He continued his football career at ArizonaStateUniversity in 1994. He continued to play professional football until 2002 when he shocked every body by turning a $3.6 million contract to join the army. He served in the army for two years until he met his controversial death on April 22, 2004 (Surhone, Timpledon & Marseken, 2010). At first, the military claimed that he was killed by militia groups in Afghanistan but after several investigations, it was found out that he was killed by friendly fire. However, Tillman has been a hero to many in both sports and as a soldier in the military.
Tillman represents the American citizen as a hero in the activities that he does. In sports, Tillman used to be the best defensive player for his team and he could not let his teammates down. He was a hero to his fellow teammates by the way he used to represent them in the defense as they were playing football. Due to this representation of his teammates in the defense while playing football, he has become a true representative of a hero to the children who are trying to emulate him.
In addition to this, when Tillman refused to take the $3.6 million to join the army, Tillman represented many heroes in the America due to lack of being selfish and considering his nation first. This means that Tillman’s character of lack of being selfish is a true representation of a hero in America. Moreover, true heroes are supposed to put the lives of other before they start putting their lives first. Therefore, Tillman acts as a representation of the true American hero whom the American children need to emulate. This also means that Tillman represents as a good role model to the children of America.
When Tillman was in the army, he helped the Iraqi citizens to achieve their independence. He did this through the hard work and loyalty that he had for his country. Additionally, the others soldiers should be motivated and this should act as a challenge to them because Tillman never joined the army because of the money but because of the patriotism and loyalty that he had for his country. Therefore, Tillman has represented his fellow veterans as people who love their country and they are ready to die for their country at any cost. Additionally, Tillman has represented the heroes because of the way they were able to put back Iraq to independence.
The government was investing in hiding the death of Tillman because of several reasons. One of the reasons was that the government was trying to hide was because of the national recruitment in the military. Since Tillman was known by very many people, due to his sporting successful sporting career, his death could have discouraged very many youths from the joining the army. Therefore, the government tried to avoid this scenario by hiding the facts of how Tillman died (Wolfe, 2004).
On the other hand, the government was trying to hide how Tillman died because it could have been murder. This is because Tillman was known to hate the invasion of Iraq and the bush administration. In addition, after he came back from where he was deployed Tillman was going to meet a reporter who he was going to tell everything about what was happening in the war. Moreover, after his death his colleagues burnt his clothes and the diary that he was writing his personal. This was against the military rule. Therefore, this was seen as murder because after his death they tried to manipulate with the evidence. Lastly, the doctors who examined Tillman body noticed that Tillman the description of his death and the evidence they got examining him was not related. Therefore, the government was trying to hide the death of Tillman because they did not want people to know why Tillman was killed and who killed.
