Advanced Grammar/Writing Slammer: You Make a Test
The first part of your assignment is to read through the PowerPoints and supporting lectures and CHAPTER FOUR of your textbook (Achieving a Readable Style), trying as much as possible to understand the principles and reflecting a bit on your own writing and where you may need work. For example, if you have comma issues, I have included only the most commonly misunderstood rules. If you understand these rules alone, you will have a much easier time in that area.
Secondly, I would like you to create a test, due on Monday, October 17th, prior to 9am.
It should be based on principles conveyed in the PowerPoints and supporting lectures — and in the book chapter. The test should be at least 25 questions long and should include the answers. It can be short answer, multiple choice, matching or a mix of those. If you are doing short answer, the answer can be in brackets or bolded. If you are doing multiple choice, the answer can be bolded. The format is up to you, but make it the answer clear. Please do not simply copy and paste things from my lectures. Make up your own examples.
Examples:
1) What is an independent clause?
[An independent clause is a group of words that can stand on its own as a sentence. At the very least it must contain a subject and verb.]

5. A comma splice is:
a) Splitting two parts of a sentence with a comma
b) A comma used after an introductory phrase or clause
c) A type of run-on in which a comma separates two independent clauses

Anything that was conveyed in the PowerPoints is fair game.
You will be graded on accuracy and attention to detail (i.e. proofread carefully).
