Reflection
When I am reading or writing persuasive essays, I have a number of strengths and weaknesses. I find writing essays quite challenging. I prefer reading other people’s thoughts and find some difficulty writing my own. I usually struggle to get the right words to elaborate myself on the paper. Most of the times, I write persuasive essays, and give to colleagues to correct my mistakes. However, they note that corrections on the thesis statement and the introduction are necessary. In addition, I have some difficulty following the APA format and I seem to make some mistakes in the format. Despite the challenges I have when writing, I have taken some measures into improving my work. I am therefore determined to improve on my writing skills especially because I love reading so much.
Although I seem to have some weaknesses when writing, I do have strengths as well. One of the strengths that I possess is the ability to accept constructive criticism from my friends. I believe that learning from experience is important and acknowledging different opinions is even more significant. I am sure that if I take the time to understand the advice that others offer, I could demonstrate significant improvement in my writing skills. I am also good in achieving intended goals. This is a very important strength according to this context because it will help me achieve a lot on improvements.
There is room for improvement and therefore I will do the following. The first thing is to get assistance. I would not know how to correct myself so I will get tuition services. Redman (2006) asserts that it is vital to read useful materials, so I will also cultivate a reading culture. This will help in carrying out research and getting ideas of writing. It will also help me to improve my grammar. I will learn to punctuate, construct good sentences, organize my essays and spell words correctly. Since I do not know how to write concrete ideas on persuasive essay, I will be tutored on how to determine what to write. The most convenient place to improve research skills is in a library (Redman, 2006). Therefore, I will frequently visit the library and do more research. Practicing frequently on writing persuasive essays is the best way of improvement. It will assist me to apply what I learn and in measuring my progress.
Here are aspects that will help in the success of professional and personal writing. The first step is to get a topic to write on. If there is a topic chosen, then proceed to organizing on what and how to write. If the topic is related to research or it is based on facts, then collect the relevant materials needed. The best online sources are those websites ran by learning institutions. Having gathered all the information needed, write down a thesis for your essay. This is the summary of the essay’s whole discussion. A thesis should be eye catching and one that makes the reader eager to read on (Redman, 2010).
The next thing is to create an outline for the essay. An outline shows what will be contained in the persuasive essay. For example, it indicates what will be in the introduction, the body of the essay and the conclusion. Most of the facts and other details lie in the body of the essay. In the first paragraph, briefly mention what is contained in the rest of the body. In a persuasive essay, one needs to put down clearly the facts, which will convince the reader. The body should have three to five facts, which agree with the thesis. Finally, write a conclusion of your essay. This is done by mentioning briefly the points in the body of the essay. Shields (2006), states that the conclusion binds the points in the essay. This is done by summarizing the points and putting emphasis to the thesis of the essay.
