evaluations of business ethics

Summary of what is in the articles consulted

Arlow, P. (1991). Personal characteristics in college students’ evaluations of business ethics and corporate social responsibility. Journal of Business Ethics, 10(1), 63-69.

This article is based on a survey that was conducted on 157 students and the impact they had on the organizations they worked for upon graduation. The research was supposed to find out the differences that led to different biases in performance and ethical behaviours within and outside of the workplace. The research established that the course a student took in college had little effect on the aspects of work that he or she valued. At the same time, it was discovered that gender has an impact to some extent on an individual’s ethical behaviour at work. The same was true for age with the observation that ethical behaviour decreased as a person gets older. Regarding gender, it was found out that ladies were more ethical than men while at work.

Schlenker, B. R., Miller, M. L., & Johnson, R. M. (2009). Moral identity, integrity, and personal responsibility. Personality, identity, and character, 316.

This article observes that in general, college students like other people like to see themselves as more morally upright than most people around them. At the same time, it was also observed that despite widespread appreciation for ethical and morally upright behaviour, the number of cases of examination cheating have been on the increase in institutions of higher learning. This shows that there is a disconnect between the thinking and the doing and this is attributed to life’s pressures that hinder people from being as ethical as they should

Authenticity

The Essay’s authenticity was ascertained by looking at the references and randomly searching for the articles that the author cited. At the same time a search of the author names indeed confirmed their existence.

Author Bias

In both articles there is author bias since the two authors dwell exclusively on the benefits of personal responsibility without touching on any challenges associated with the same. This however enhances the quality of the essay by highlighting points relevant to the application of personal responsibility in college.
